Dr. Silvia Gratz | Chief Medical Officer and Medical Director of Admissions / Assessment

Dr. Silvia Gratz joined the medical staff at Fairmount on June 26, 2006 and was appointed the Chief Medical Officer in January 2011. She is also the Medical Director of N3, our High Acuity adult psychiatric unit.

Dr. Gratz completed her undergraduate studies at the LaSalle University, Cum Laude and received her D.O. from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1985. After her internship in Internal Medicine at Hahnemann University Hospital, she completed a residency in adult psychiatry at Hahnemann University Hospital in 1989 and a two-year National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) sponsored fellowship in Clinical Psychopharmacology in 1991 at the Eastern Pennsylvania Psychiatric Institute (EPPI).

Board Certified in Psychiatry, by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN), since 1998, Dr. Gratz has provided her expertise in many regional psychiatric facilities and has served as a Professor and Lecturer in the Department of Psychiatry at EPPI and the Drexel University College of Medicine. Notable positions include Director of ECT and Medical Director of the Schizophrenia Center at EPPI, Director of Adult Inpatient Services at MCP/Hahnemann and Interim Medical Director of Hahnemann University Hospital, Psychiatric Medical Care Unit. She has been the recipient of many teaching awards while on staff at MCP/ EPPI as well as the Exemplary Psychiatry Award from the National Institute of Mental Illness (NAMI) and the MCP Physician Star Award for the Most Dedicated Doctor.

Dr. Gratz is an active member of many professional organizations including the American Psychiatric Association, American Medical Association, and the American Society of Clinical Psychopharmacology. She has been appointed and elected to several leadership positions and committees including the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee and Chairperson, Performance Improvement Committee at EPPI; and the Drug Safety Monitoring Board at the Drexel University College of Medicine. Dr. Gratz was one of the original 2 Principal Investigators in Philadelphia for CATIE – a research program studying treatment effectiveness and outcomes in schizophrenia. Dr. Gratz has also published several journal articles and book chapters on psychopharmacology particularly focusing on the treatment of Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome and has been the recipient of several research grants exploring treatment of Psychotic Disorders.

Lee Silverman, MD | Attending Physician and Medical Director, Inpatient Adult General Psychiatry
Dr. Lee Silverman joined the psychiatric team at Fairmount Behavioral Health System in April 2016 after spending 24 years at Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital in Delaware County. There, as part of a close knit group of psychiatrists, Mercy Psychiatry Associates, he was able to follow a large group of patients through various levels of care on an ongoing basis. More specifically, he personally treated these patients on an outpatient basis, in the hospital when necessary, in the crisis center, and at times for psychiatric consultation when they were medically admitted. This ongoing practice spanning all levels of care allowed him to maintain diverse psychiatric skills and directly observe the results of his treatment. Although able and willing to treat most psychiatric disorders in adult patients, Dr. Silverman’s specific interests include treatment refractory depression, severe mental illnesses such as schizophrenia, and the more challenging cases that have defied conventional treatment. Dr. Silverman also has extensive experience working with intensive case managers, peer specialists, ACT and PACT teams and is a strong believer in collaborative and continuous care. He prides himself on “thinking outside of the box” and individualizing care to suit the patient’s needs.

Dr. Silverman completed both his medical school and psychiatric residency training at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, PA. He was first Board-Certified in Psychiatry in 1994 and has subsequently recertified twice since then. Prior to leaving Mercy, Dr. Silverman was the Medical Director of the Crisis Center. Other responsibilities included the ongoing teaching of medical students. He is currently the Medical Director of the N5 Adult Psychiatry Unit at Fairmount.

Stephen Prayson

Stephen Prayson, DO : Attending Physician, Admissions Department
Dr. Prayson earned his Doctor of Pharmacy degree (Pharm.D.) and practiced as a clinical pharmacist prior to becoming a physician. He attended Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences and graduated as a D.O. in 2006. Dr. Prayson then completed a residency in psychiatry at the Center for Behavioral Medicine (formerly known as Western Missouri Mental Health Center) in Kansas City, Missouri in 2010. He moved to Pennsylvania and worked as an attending psychiatrist for St. Luke’s University Health Systems for 4 years and during that time was also appointed as a clinical faculty member for both Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and the DeSales Physician Assistant Program. He joined the medical staff at Fairmount in April 2016.

Neil Cohn, MD | Attending Physician and Medical Director, Women’s Trauma Unit/Admissions
Dr. Neil Cohn joined Fairmount Behavioral Health System in July of 2016. He is the Medical Director and Attending Physician on our 14-bed Trauma-Informed Women’s Unit. He also works in the Admissions Department, where he evaluates individuals held overnight to determine appropriate treatment. His work at Fairmount matches his experience at his previous job and his training.

Prior to Fairmount, Dr. Cohn worked at Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital, a medium sized hospital in Darby, Pennsylvania, where he started his employment from the time of his graduation from residency in 1992 until June of 2016. There, he was Medical Director of a 21 bed general adult psychiatry unit. Also, during his greater than 24 year stint at Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital, he served as Director of an unlocked 11 bed unit, a Geriatric Psychiatric Unit, and he began his career there as Director of the Crisis Center. He continued to do emergency evaluations in the Crisis Center through most of his 24 years at Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital.

Aside from his inpatient work, Dr. Cohn had a private outpatient practice, and then worked in the Community Care Program, a case management program, as a physician, and then a Director for 6 years. He also has much experience with consultation work at Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital. He takes pride in his understanding of the interplay between medical and psychiatric issues, which is also an important part of that work.

Dr. Cohn graduated high school in central Pennsylvania, where he was Valedictorian. He attended Amherst College, where he graduated with a B.A. and Chemistry major. He moved to Philadelphia in 1984, where he attended Medical School at Jefferson Medical College. He continued with his internship and residency training at Jefferson, before graduating in 1988. Prior to graduation, he scored the top 1% in the Psychiatry Residency in Training Examination that is given to all residents in Psychiatry in the United States. Dr. Cohn has lived in Philadelphia ever since and is happily married.

He remains focused on continuing education and is a proud member of the American Psychiatric Association since his second year of medical school.

Dr. Cohn is a professional natural bodybuilder and continues to compete. He is a strong believer in the principle that a strong mind and healthy body go together. He frequently counsels his patients on the importance of healthy eating. He believes in the importance of recovery and goal setting for his patients at Fairmount who come to the hospital in crisis but generally leave with renewed purpose.

Shobha Sem

Shobha Sem, MD | Medical Director Family Medicine Team
Dr. Shobha Sem attended SN Medical college in Agra, India where she graduated with her Doctorate of Medicine in 1969. She later completed her residency training in Family Practice through St. Joseph’s Hospital in Reading, PA. She received her Board Certification in Family Medicine from the American Academy of Family Physicians in 1984. After 12 years of managing her private practice and medical directorship of several nursing homes, Dr. Sem joined the United States Air Force in 1992 where she served as Family Physician, Flight Medicine, Public Health, and an Advanced Aerovac NASA Flight Surgeon. Dr. Sem also received a degree in Acupuncture from the HMI Medical University in Los Angeles, CA.

With over 20 years of experience and military service, Dr. Sem provides hands on, holistic and traditional treatment for patients of all ages. She has broad experience in all aspects of Urgent Care, Emergency Room Care, and Outpatient services. Dr. Sem is an expert in Medical Record Review, Medical Consultations, and Pain Management. A member of the American Academy of Family Physicians and Uniformed Military Service Association, Dr. Sem is also proficient in School and Sports Physicals, Hyperbaric chamber Management, Adult/Geriatric care, Public Health, Occupational Health and STD health clinics. We are delighted to have Dr. Sem on our team!

Dr. Edward Moore : Medical Director, Child/Adolescent Services
Dr. Edward Moore attended Hahnemann University School of Medicine, achieving his M.D. degree in 1990. Following an internship at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital he completed his residency in psychiatry and also a fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry at Hahnemann University Hospital.

Board certified since April 1996, Dr. Moore has provided leadership at many Philadelphia/South Jersey area institutions since returning to this area after a brief stint in private practice in the Norfolk-Virginia Beach area. Notable positions have included Directorship of the Extended Acute Unit of Girard Medical Center; appointment as Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey and the Medical Directorship at the Bridge Drug/Alcohol Adolescent Rehab Program. He has been the Director of Child and Adolescent Services at Fairmount BHS since 2003.

Scott Dunzik

Dr. Scott Dunzik | Medical Director of Co-Occurring Disorders Unit, President of the Medical Staff
Dr. Dunzik attended Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia and graduated in 1992. He completed his residency in Psychiatry at the Institute of Pennsylvania Hospital in 1996. He has also received additional training in Psychoanalysis at the Philadelphia Center for Psychoanalysis. Dr. Dunzik received board certification in 1999 by the American Board of Neurology and Psychiatry.

For the period of September 1998 through August 1999 Dr. Dunzik was a volunteer faculty member of the Thomas Jefferson University School of Medicine where he taught first year medical students; and he also supervised PCOM medical students on psychiatry rotations at Mercy Hospital during this same period. From July of 1997 through 2000 Dr. Dunzik served as the Medical Director on the Inpatient Psychiatric Unit at Mercy Hospital of Philadelphia. Dr. Dunzik has been a physician at Fairmount since 2000 and has served as Medical Director of the N4 Unit at Fairmount Behavioral Health System, which serves dual-diagnosis patients, since 2005. In July, 2012, Dr. Dunzik was promoted to the position of Medical Director for Dual Diagnosis and Chemical Dependency Services, in which he oversees the treatment of patients on N4 as well as on our chemical dependency detoxification and rehabilitation units.

Elissa Pettinato, PA-C | Certified Physician Assistant, Family Medicine Services
Elissa Pettinato joined the Family Medicine Team in May 2017. She attended Salus University and graduated Magna Cum Laude in 2016 with a Master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies. She is certified by the National Commission of Certification of Physician Assistants and licensed to practice medicine in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. She is a member of the Pennsylvania Society of Physician Assistants and a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants.

Elissa earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Penn State University, majoring in Kinesiology. She has over 10 years of experience within the health and fitness industry working as a Health Fitness Specialist, Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, and Group Fitness Instructor.
