Family Practice Medical Services

Treatment for Medical Issues

In 2015, Fairmount Behavioral Health System changed its system of family practice medicine so that we can fully integrate the patients’ physical health issues into the behavioral health treatment plan. We provide our own medical services for the inpatient and residential patients under the supervision of Dr. Shoba Sem, our medical director for family practice medicine.. Dr. Sem provides direct supervision of our physician extenders (i.e., nurse practitioners, physician assistants). To view Dr. Sem’s bio, please click here.

Our Family Practice Medicine service is responsible for taking a complete medical history, general physical examination, and a neurological assessment. A laboratory work-up includes:

  • Drug screen
  • Blood chemistry
  • Tuberculin skin test (this may be ordered)
  • Chest x-ray
  • HCG test
  • HIV test
  • Pregnancy test
  • Pelvic exam with pap smear
  • Culture for venereal disease and/or other clinically appropriate diagnostic tests will be provided as indicated from the medical history and clinical evaluation.

Our medical staff here at Fairmount Behavioral Health is also responsible for the diagnostic work-up and test evaluation of any detected or suspected medical disorders, as well as their clinical management. Qualified medical specialists may be requested to consult on the care of any patient with specific medical needs.
