Why Women May Be Exposed to Trauma in Their Lifetime

One in three women have been victims of sexual violence in their lives, and one in four have experienced abuse from an intimate partner. Trauma is more common in women, and they are twice as likely to develop PTSD after being a victim or witness to a traumatic event. Trauma is a risk factor for a number of mental health issues, and women who are suffering from mental health issues are more likely than men to reach out for help. Women who experience trauma and develop PTSD may in fact have early warning signs or symptoms.
