Adult Inpatient Program

Inpatient Treatment for Adults

Fairmount Behavioral Health System houses five unique adult psychiatric units, each of which offers a specialized level of care designed to meet the individual treatment needs of adults (ages 18 to 65).

Adult Psychiatric Units

N1: Intensive Care

This unit is for adults in an acute state of psychiatric crisis who may need long-term hospitalization to achieve stabilization. These patients typically have long-standing disorders, a history of psychiatric breaks and persistently low DSM-Axis 5 scores.

N2: High-Acuity Care

This specialized unit is designed to accommodate adults who present aggression, active suicidal activities or both. These patients are often candidates for increased observation while on other units.

N3: Women’s Trauma-Informed Program

This unit is designed for higher-functioning women who may have a history of trauma and abuse or have sensitive issues they would not feel comfortable sharing in a group with men (Relationship dysfunction, break ups, grief and loss, etc.). They may also be experiencing issues related to chemical dependency.

N4: General Psychiatry With a Dual Diagnosis Track

This unit serves adults who may present a variety of psychiatric issues. Beyond general psychiatry, N4 has a separate dual diagnosis program for patients whose psychiatric disorder co-occurs with chemical dependency issues. Patients on the unit are separated by program for clinical activities such as group therapy and psycho-educational seminars.

The dual diagnosis program can implement a detox protocol for alcohol, benzodiazepines and opiates. This unit also provides methadone maintenance (up to 200 milligrams a day) and Suboxone maintenance for individuals who currently receiving those medications from another provider. In these cases, we will need to verify dosage.

N5: Short-Term Assessment and Treatment

N5 is a general psychiatric unit designed to manage higher functioning adults in need of short-term assessment and stabilization.

N6: Women’s General Psychiatric Unit

This unit is a designed to help higher functioning female patients in need of short-term assessment and stabilization. Patients on this unit may have chemical dependency issues. Treatment is individualized and includes gender-responsive and trauma-informed groups and individual therapy.
