Women’s Inpatient Services

Female-Specific Inpatient Program

Fairmount Behavioral Health System is home to a gender-specific unit in which women may openly and candidly discuss their experiences with sexual trauma and domestic violence. This unit is designed for higher functioning women who may have a history of trauma and abuse or have sensitive issues they would not feel comfortable sharing in a group that included men. These issues include relationship dysfunction, break-ups, grief and loss. Patients on this unit may also receive treatment for chemical dependency issues.

We give women the choice to attend this unit and offer therapeutic activities that can support an increase in self-esteem and self-worth. Patients often complete trauma narratives in this setting and share them with the group to support one another and give feedback.

By keeping these patients in an all-female population, we hope to help them establish trust and bond with each other. Our therapists are mindful of the psychological impact of abuse and are trained to acknowledge triggers and flashbacks.
