Women’s Trauma Unit (N3)

Among the specific programs at Fairmount Behavioral Health System is a gender-specific unit designed for women who have a history of trauma, abuse or other sensitive issues including unhealthy relationships, grief and self-harm. Treatment on this unit is trauma-informed, recovery-oriented and provides women with a secure place in which to heal.

Our specialized group therapy curriculum was developed using well-researched treatment models and is designed to teach women a variety of skills to help manage a range of psychiatric and trauma-related symptoms. These skills include mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation and interpersonal effectiveness. In addition to learning therapeutic skills, we teach women about the nature of traumatic experiences and their effect on mental health and wellness. In a group setting, women have the opportunity to bond and learn from one another.

We hope to provide a structured environment in which women feel supported and can build the trust necessary to address difficult experiences and problematic behaviors. Women tell us they leave treatment with new skills and a sense of stability, better equipped to face life’s daily challenges and continue their journey of recovery.
